Best Practices to Manage Effects of Settlement and Heave at Catch Basins and Manholes

December 30, 2019 by Shannon Fiecke

The most recent implementation study on manholes is a 2001 LRRB study. In addition to being out-of-date, the study does not address catch basins.

Other than this study, very little documentation exists on the Minnesota municipal experience with catch basins and manholes, nor the municipal experience in the United States. Most publicly available resources on manholes and catch basin installation are promotional literature or articles from industry publications.

To address this need, this project will produce a resource that (A) discusses installation techniques that prevent settlement or heave near catch basins and manholes, (B) documents the experiences of Minnesota municipalities with catch basins and manholes, and (C) documents available catch basin and manhole products.
