Signing for Effective Roundabout Approach Speed Reduction

December 30, 2019 by Shannon Fiecke

A recent LRRB project, “Strategies for Effective Roundabout Approach Speed Reduction,” provides the methodology to select, install, and evaluate treatments at different locations. This project had two goals:

  • To analyze existing research and conduct a survey of roundabout design and installation practitioners to determine best practices;
  • To develop a resource that engineers can use to identify appropriate speed reduction treatments for high-speed approaches to roundabouts.

The result was a 100+ page report. The goal of this RIC task is to synthesize this information into a more useful, quick-reference tool, possibly including one or more of the following:

  • A more digestible decision tree
  • One-pager quick reference
  • A video
  •  Training/workshop
