Researchers have developed a spreadsheet-based decision-making tool to help local agencies establish effective maintenance practices within their limited budgets as they work to preserve pavement markings on low traffic volume roads. Results from a review of past research, a survey of local agencies and an examination of County Road Safety plans were used to develop a prioritization scheme among pavement markings based on pavement condition, road width, traffic volumes, the age of existing markings, the potential for crash reduction and other factors.
